Canadian Mortgage Awards 2020


For 14 years now, the annual Canadian Mortgage Awards is the leading independent awards event for the mortgage industry. 21 categories recognize excellence and highlight the outstanding achievements of those in the mortgage business – including brokers, brokerages, lenders, and many more

Nominations will be open from November 14, 2019 to January 15, 2020, 11:59 PM EST. Kindly submit your nomination via the online form below.

Each nomination entry requires contact details and a brief reason for nomination (under 300 words). To strengthen your nomination, the reason for nomination should encapsulate why the nominee deserves to be recognized in that award category according to the criteria. The brief reason for nomination is a major factor in the selection of finalists.

A nominator can enter a particular nominee in multiple categories. Several nominators can enter the same nominee in a category.

There is no cost for submitting a nomination.

This award is one of the highest accolades offered to an individual in the mortgage industry. This award recognizes the most outstanding mortgage broker from a brokerage operation with 25 staff or more (or full-time equivalents). Brokers may nominate themselves and the CMA team will also consider input from lenders and brokerages. Extra weight will be placed on nominations that come from those in a position to assess a broker’s performance objectively. Finalists will be invited to provide supporting documentation for submission to the CMA judging panel.

This award is one of the highest accolades offered to an individual in the mortgage industry. This award recognizes the most outstanding mortgage broker from a brokerage operation with fewer than 25 staff (or full-time equivalents). Brokers may nominate themselves and the CMA team will also consider input from lenders and brokerages. Extra weight will be placed on nominations that come from those in a position to assess a broker’s performance objectively. Finalists will be invited to provide supporting documentation for submission to the CMA judging panel.

This award recognizes the brokerage operation with fewer than 25 staff (or full-time equivalents) that has displayed excellence over the past 12-18 months. The number of staff includes all loan writers and support staff across all company offices/branches. Finalists will be invited to provide extra submissions for the CMA judging panel such as client feedback, community-based work or lender testimonials.

This award recognizes the brokerage that has implemented the most effective diversification business model. Nominations are open to independent and franchise brokerages, regardless of whether the business is a small operation providing a compact diversification offering or a larger business that has a range of specialists (financial planners, accountants, mortgage brokers) all operating under one brand.

This award recognizes the commitment of a company with over 20 employees in Canada to building a workplace that recognizes excellence and supports career growth for all. This award recognizes the company that has won the reputation to be called an employer of choice within the mortgage industry.

Eligible nominees are brokerages, networks, lenders and service providers.

This award recognizes the lender underwriter whose expertise and outstanding service to brokers help ensure their deals are funded quickly and efficiently and guides them in the right direction to improve their funding ratios in the last 12-18 months.

This award recognizes the most outstanding national broker network that has displayed excellence, commitment to brokers, agents and support staff and the mortgage industry over the past 12-18 months.

This award recognizes the best brokerage office or branch that has been in operation for less than three years. To be eligible a business must have started on or after 1 January 2019. Brokers may nominate their own businesses, and our researchers will also contact lenders and major franchises to submit details of their standout performers.

Customer service is an incredibly important measure of any brokerage's long-term sustainability and success. This award recognizes the brokerage office or branch that has displayed excellence over the past 12 months in maintaining consistent and sustainable customer service standards.

This award recognizes the broker who specialises in commercial real estate, investment finance, SME/debtor finance, asset and leasing finance who has displayed excellence over the past 12-18 months. Brokers/agents may nominate themselves and the CMA team will also consider input from lenders and lenders.

Finalists will be invited to provide supporting documentation and references for submission to the CMA judging panel.

 

When judging this category, the following criteria will be considered:

 

  • residential to commercial lending ratios
  • loan volumes
  • year over year growth
  • lead generation
  • client retention
  • conversion rates
  • overall customer service

This award recognizes the broker who has displayed excellence over the past 12-18 months in private lending. Brokers/agents may nominate themselves and the CMA team will also consider input from specialist lenders. Considerable weight will be placed on nominations from those in a position to assess a broker’s performance objectively.

Industry services play an extremely important role within the mortgage industry. This award recognizes the service provider that adds the most value to its customers' businesses. Eligible service providers include but are not limited to software and technology, legal, compliance, training and education. Finalists will be invited to provide supporting documentation for submission to the CMA judging panel.

BDMs are an essential ingredient in the lender/broker relationship. This award recognizes the lender BDM who has displayed excellence over the past 12-18 months. BDMs may nominate themselves and the CMA team will also review nominations from lenders. Considerable weight will be placed on nominations that come directly from the broking community.

Award of excellence for the outstanding advertising campaign from the last 12 months. This award recognizes the outstanding individual campaign directed to mortgage professionals in terms of its effectiveness, reach and creativity.

This award recognizes the broker who has displayed excellence over the past 12-18 months in alternative lending.

This award recognizes the brokerage operation with 25 staff (or full-time equivalents) or more that has displayed excellence over the past 12-18 months. The number of staff includes all loan writers and support staff across all company offices/branches. Finalists will be invited to provide extra submissions for the CMA judging panel such as client feedback, community-based work or lender testimonials.

This Award is given to the brokerage or network that has best harnessed technology and digital solutions to improve their business, aid their brokers, and leverage overall client experience over the last 12-18 months. This category looks at the brokerage’s or network’s use of digital platform/solution/resource/software/s such as (but not limited to) CRM, digital marketing, mobile technology, electronic document management, connectivity platforms, and collaboration tools.

This award recognizes the outstanding female trailblazer in the mortgage industry whose astounding personal and professional achievements have earned them a place among the industry’s best.

This award recognizes the company, organization, brokerage, branch or office whose outstanding contribution of time, leadership and financial support over a sustained period of time, beyond normal expectations, has made significant impacts in the receiving causes or communities.

This is the highest honour and most coveted award at the Canadian Mortgage Awards. This award recognizes and celebrates a leading figure who has contributed much to the advancement of the mortgage industry in Canada. Though there are no defined parameters, this award will acknowledge someone with an established history and reputation of distinguished service to the mortgage and real estate profession and who has exhibited leadership and provided inspiration to others in the sector and own workplace, whilst putting the interests of the industry at the top of their priorities throughout their career.

This award recognizes the outstanding broker or agent who is 40 years old or younger. To be eligible, nominees must be 40 or younger as of Dec. 31, 2019. Brokers or age ts may nominate themselves and the CMA team will also review nominations from lenders. Considerable weight will be placed on nominations that come directly from those capable of evaluating the nominee objectively.
